Frequently Asked Questions

  • We are a subscription adventure-in-a-box game full of puzzles, clues, ciphers, and deep story-driven narratives. Many of our adventures happen in a series, with an overall story arc linking each month’s box to an exciting climax at the end of the series. Each month you will receive a new adventure in a box, all games are connected by a larger overall narrative, but players can start with any box without having played any of the previous games.

  • Each box varies from month to month, but it is always filled with puzzles and materials to further your adventures. Below is a picture of one of our box’s contents to get an idea of what may be included in any given month.

  • While most of what you need is in the box, you will still need an internet-connected device and probably some scratch paper. Additionally, you will want to hold on to all boxes of the current season, as there may be callback puzzles to previous material sent in earlier boxes.

  • Although some elements of a game may be “choose your own adventure” style, each box’s main mission is only playable by an individual once — or twice if you are the kind of person that wants to show off to your friends how smart you are ;) There is a repackaging list for each box so that the game can be played again, but some items in a box may be consumable depending on the game.

  • We are primarily a subscription service, with discounts if you sign up for multiple months at a time. Sometimes we may have reissues of older adventures, which we will sell directly by adventure on our online marketplace.

  • The Conundrum Box is designed for the family, but when it is children playing alone, the difficulty level is designed for about 12 years and older. We have an educational puzzle adventure for younger kids (8-14 years old) called The Junior Explorers Society by Codename Conundrum that will be launching at the end of the year. These adventures teach different subjects while adding in the puzzle adventure element. While also a subscription box aimed at-home use, interested teachers should contact us for a classroom discount.

  • We don’t just leave you with a box and say “solve it.” If you have difficulty with any part of the adventure, help is available on our website for each specific adventure. We gear the subscription adventures to be challenging enough that you spend at least an hour playing, while the seasonal / gift boxes are meant to be quicker and more casual in scope.

  • As long as the post office is still picking up packages we will be shipping. The crisis means that we will have limited pick-up days from the post office, so instead of sending out every other day, we might be only sending one day a week If we are unable to ship, then we will notify customers individually.

Finally, the worst-case scenario plan is to create online games for subscriptions to access until we can ship out their physical games. These games will be different from physical games, and all physical games will eventually be shipped to the subscribers and other customers who were impacted by a postal shutdown.

Currently, domestic shipping via USPS First Class is taking anywhere from 2 days to over a month. most packages are arriving within a week, but we have been unable to determine why some packages seem to get "stuck" in the system for longer periods than that. We cannot refund a package once it has been shipped.

Currently, international shipping is taking from two weeks to at least four months. In cases of international orders, we cannot refund a package after we have shipped it.

  • THIS SECTION SUSPENDED UNTIL AFTER THE COVID-19 CRISIS, please read above!

If you are on the subscription plan, your first box will be shipped within 7 business days, after that your monthly box will be shipped the first week of the month. Boxes from our back catalog bought individually (non-subscription) will ship within 7 days of purchase. (We try to ship them within 3 business days if possible)

Orders placed December 15th and before will be shipped before the USPS's first-class Christmas Eve cutoff date of December 17th. Once the package is in the mail, we cannot control how fast it gets to you. We can only guarantee that the box is in the mail before the cutoff date. We cannot refund packages that were mailed before the December 17th deadline that do not make it to their destination in time. Please file a formal complaint with the post office in these instances.

  • Most of the time it is a themed shipping box that matches the game you have bought or our themed Conundrum Box mailer. However, due to supply issues right now, sometimes we may have to send the package in a generic box. The contents will be exactly the same, though. Upon special request, we can attempt to blind-ship your package, but not all boxes can be shipped this way. Please reach out if that is something you are interested in.

  • Over time the boxes we put out will be rereleased. No box will be reissued within two years of the last time it was released, and we strive to make that period much longer. No box that you can currently buy in our store as a separate purchase from the subscription will be included in the subscription for at least a year.

  • NOTE: Currently international shipping is taking from two weeks to at least four months. In cases of international orders, we cannot refund a package after we have shipped it.

We do not charge for any potential customs or taxes a package may incur. The Conundrum Box is not responsible for customs charges or taxes, these are the responsibility of the customer.

Our subscription plan through Cratejoy can automatically determine shipping costs for orders through that platform. If you wish to buy through our website, you will notice that we don't offer international shipping in the store. You can contact us at contact@theconundrumbox.com to set up a custom order if you wish. This is usually a cheaper way to ship internationally if you want multiple games.

  • Ok, this one gets confusing, and feel free to contact us for further information. When you first make a subscription, it is scheduled to start with the next month's box. Due to a policy at Cratejoy (the marketplace we use) we are required to send out the first box of a subscription as soon as possible, which is before the next month's ship date. For example, if you order on January 3rd, your box will be shipped by the 10th, but that box is your February box. So in the calendar month of February, you will not have another box shipped. In March, your second box will arrive. We don't like this policy, as it can be confusing, but it is required by our marketplace to sell.

  • We will have extra inventory or reissues from time to time that can be purchased on our online marketplace, but we cannot guarantee the back catalog’s availability. Some boxes will appear again in the subscription after 2-3 years.

  • We really hope that that is not the case! Reach out to us and we can see if we can help you. However, due to the nature of the service we do not offer returns or refunds on products already shipped or orders older than 24 hours. We cannot offer a refund on a renewal order unless within 48 hours of the renewal. After that, we have already started creating your box. Feel free to cancel your subscription, and we will stop shipping you boxes once we have shipped all boxes you have paid for already, and you will not be charged again unless you restart your subscription. To ask for a refund, you must email us directly at contact@theconundrumbox.com, Cratejoy cannot issue refunds, so messages should not be sent through them. On orders refunded, we cannot refund referral fees, credit card processing fees, or transaction fees associated with the order. Those funds are not returned to us when we refund a purchase.

  • There are three different databases your account may be in.

IF YOUR EMAILS FROM US COME THROUGH CRATEJOY:

It is most likely that you subscribed through Cratejoy Marketplace and not directly through our website. This is where your subscription is managed. Here is a LINK to Cratejoy, you can login at the top right of the page or reset your password there.

A small percentage of our customers are in a separate database that Cratejoy keeps. If you do not see your account on the Cratjoy Marketplace but you get our emails through Cratejoy, please use this LINK to sign in.

IF YOUR EMAILS FROM US COME THROUGH SQUARESPACE

If you did not sign up through Cratejoy, and you bought your subscription through our website store and not Cratejoy, please use this LINK.

When a subscription is canceled we fulfill all boxes already paid for before the cancelation.
